UTK Field Station, Sevier Co., TN (02 Apr 2009)

On Thursday the Comparative Vertebrate Biology class went out to the UTK Field Station near Gatlinburg to look for critters.  Weather was overcast with temps in the low 70s and very breezy.  

Amphibians and Reptiles:

     Desmognathus sp. (A Dusky Salamander) 1 adult
     Plethodon dorsalis (Northern Zigzag Salamander) 1 adult and 2 juveniles
     Plethodon serratus (Southern Red-Backed Salamander) 3 adults
     Rana clamitans melanota (Green Frog) several juveniles around pond and creek
     Terrapene carolina carolina (Eastern Box Turtle) 1 adult female
     Carphophis amoenus amoenus (Eastern Wormsnake) 1 adult
     Nerodia sipedon sipedon (Northern Watersnake) 1 adult
     Sceloporus undulatus (Eastern Fence Lizard) 1 juvenile

Birds:

     American Robin
     Northern Mockingbird
     American Crow
     Tree Swallow
     Bluejay
     Eastern Towhee
     Mourning Dove
     Belted Kingfisher
     Cedar Waxwing
     Eastern Phoebe
     Rock Dove
     Black-Capped Chickadee

Mammals:

     Sciurus carolinensis (Eastern Gray Squirrel) 4+
     Didelphis virginiana (Opossum) several DOR
     Marmota monax (Woodchuck) 2 DOR and 1 adult
     Peromyscus sp. (A Mouse) 1 found dead
