Cherokee National Forest, Monroe Co., TN (28 Apr 2009)

Today, Graham Reynolds, Stesha Pasachnik, and I went to the Cherokee National Forest in Monroe County to look for several plethodontid salamanders to photograph and we were not disappointed.  Weather was nice, in the 70s and partly cloudy.

Amphibians:

     Desmognathus aeneus (Seepage Salamander) 1 adult
     Desmognathus conanti (Spotted Dusky Salamander) 8 adults, juveniles, and larvae
     Desmognathus ocoee (Ocoee Salamander) 150+ adults and juveniles
     Desmognathus santeetlah (Santeetlah Dusky Salamander) 4 adults
     Desmognathus quadramaculatus (Black-Bellied Salamander) 3 adults
     Desmognathus wrighti (Pygmy Salamander) 3 adults
     Eurycea wilderae (Blue Ridge Two-Lined Salamander) 4 adults and 1 larva
     Notophthalmus viridescens viridescens (Red-Spotted Newt) 1 eft
     Plethodon teyahalee (Southern Appalachian Salamander) 17 adults and juveniles
     Plethodon serratus (Southern Red-Backed Salamander) 5 adults
     Rana clamitans melanota (Green Frog) 4 adults
     Rana sylvatica (Wood Frog) TMTC tadpoles

Reptiles:

     Coluber constrictor constrictor (Northern Black Racer) 1 adult DOR
     Diadophis punctatus edwardsii (Northern Ring-Necked Snake) 1 adult
     Nerodia sipedon sipedon (Northern Watersnake) 2 juveniles DOR
     Pantherophis guttatus (Red Cornsnake) 1 adult DOR
